Finally, it is a pleasure to acknowledge an important anniversary. This year, the monthly journal First Things celebrates its twenty-fifth year. We salute the accomplishments of that fine journal, which rightly describes itself as “America’s most influential journal of religion and public life.” Founded in 1990 by the late Richard John Neuhaus, First Things has brought intelligence, passion, and a humanizing fearlessness to the discussion of our spiritual patrimony. We have long regarded First Things, now edited by the indomitable Rusty Reno, as an unofficial brother-in-arms in the fight against the meretricious soullessness that is eating away at the foundations of our civilization. Hearty congratulations to First Things on its first twenty-five years: here’s to the next twenty-five!
