To the Editors:
In regard to Hilton Kramer’s excitement over “Morality Tales” (“Morality Tales on Tour,” November, 1987)—once again Kramer rushes to the rescue of art, morality, and history!
Dear Mr. Kramer: To someone with your high literary aspirations, I would dare a brief suggestion—lay off the use of “alas,” it makes you sound like a fuddy-duddy instead of a hero of our times.
Don’t thank me, I am glad to be of help . . .

Hilton Kramer replies:
It’s a pity, alas, that Mr. Golub is so much better as a writer than as a painter.
