I first discovered The New Criterion in graduate school thanks to my college Greek tutor, who was a friend of Hilton Kramer. It opened my eyes to serious criticism and the importance of using the past as a lens to better understand our present. Since my introduction to The New Criterion in my youth, the plucky magazine’s influence and importance has only continued to grow.

Your support enables us to maintain the high level of criticism you look forward to each month.

We now have more print subscribers than ever before in our thirty-six-year history. We’ve had millions of visitors to our website. Across our social media accounts, we count tens of thousands among our digital community.

This is all thanks to the generosity of our readers. Your support has enabled us to put The New Criterion into more hands, and onto more screens. Our weekly Critic’s Notebook, Dispatch, and Archive newsletters give those new to The New Criterion a seamless entry point into our unique brand of criticism. Online, we’ve been able to supplement our flagship print magazine (which we still proudly consider the heart of our efforts) with online-exclusive essays, audio articles, podcast, videos, and more.

Your support enables us to maintain the high level of criticism you look forward to each month. As we move towards the close of our thirty-sixth season we look to the future. Help us further expand our community and bring together those yearning for serious criticism on art and culture.

Excelsior!
