Of serious, but we moderns also have 
Recourse to a preliminary move; 
One you made (and took a chance in making, 
Though I can imagine a chancier undertaking) 
In ending so early a text to me with a heart. 
The risk? That doing so could raise some doubts. 
How to deal with this emoticon? 
Would reciprocating cross a Rubicon? 
What if there was insufficient cause? 
Questions I allowed to give me pause 
For fully a millisecond or thereabouts. 

The term I instantly attached to it 
Was “undefendedness”; attached by way 
Of saying you were willing to display 
A marked partiality for me 
And do it so, well, undefendedly. 
(A willingness of which the roseate 
Heart that closed a text had proved a sign.) 
Here was what I soonest loved in you 
(All right, not soonest; right behind the blue

This quality of heart, for having loosed
