Last night at the 92nd Street Y, violinist/violist Julian Rachlin and pianist Itamar Golan presented the first recital in a two-part series of all of Brahms’s violin and viola sonatas. Tickets are still available for the second recital on Saturday night, which will include the second viola sonata, the beautiful and tragic third violin sonata, and the rarely heard “F-A-E” sonata for violin and piano, a joint composition by Albert Dietrich, Robert Schumann, and a 20 year-old Brahms. Interested concertgoers can find more information and purchase tickets at 92Y’s website.
My full review of these two recitals will appear in this space next week.
