BBC1… BBC2… BBC3… BBC4…

Andrew Sullivan and others have wisely picked up today on the latest round of BBC hostilities, including Conrad Black’s brilliant offensive in the Telegraph. (For more on the BBC, see here, here, here, here, here, and here).
Recently I began questioning my colleagues across the pond on why they put up with it all: the bias, the arrogance, the system funded by a mandatory telly tax, the media monopoly to put AOLTW to shame. The defense? The BBC’s role in The War, the Max Beerbohm broadcasts of course, and “well, just look at your television… It’s [British slang].” Which, I considered, is true. Except we are not required to pay for [American slang].
