TNC on the move
[Posted 6:13 PM by James Panero]
After twenty-one years at 850 Seventh Avenue, and six months of headaches, The New Criterion is moving. Here is what Roger Kimball has to say about it:
Although I have always admired the Duke of Cambridge’s
assertion that he was “against all change at any time for
any reason,” the end of our lease and the prospect of a
sharp rise in rent at our current location were the sorts of
change we decided to resist by making a change of our own.
On or about September 10th, then, we will be pitching our
tent at 900 Broadway (at 20th Street).
I would like to take
this opportunity to thank a few individuals who donated
their time and expertise to help us: the architect Tobias Arianna
of Landy Verderame Arianna, New York, made our new offices
beautiful, and our legal counsel–including Bernard Michael and
Ann Shipley–made the lease possible. I also extend my thanks to
you–the many New Criterion readers and supporters who have
contributed to our moving-fund appeal.
Located along the old Ladies Mile, The Goelet building–our new home–was designed in the Romanesque style by Stanford White in 1885. Here and here are two links on the building. Also, not enough can be said about the architect Tobias Arianna, who has donated his services to design a handsome and fitting interior for the new offices in a challenging space of weird angles and free-standing columns.
As of September 13, 2003, the new address for The New Criterion will be:
The New Criterion
900 Broadway
