Mark Steyn online
[Posted 7:00 PM by James Panero]
Like most of New York, the offices of The New Criterion closed unexpectedly early on Thursday. Yet with the good fortune of having transmitted much of our September issue to press the day before, the production cycle of this magazine was not affected by the blackout of 2003. (The editors also passed an amusing evening as refugees on the second floor of the Yale Club, which handled the situation with typical aplomb.)
One New Criterion writer who, of course, needs no grid is the renegade Mark Steyn. From the weekend Wall Street Journal, here is an editorial on California candidate Arianna Huffington that would make Dr. Guillotin proud. Also, here is Steyn’s Sunday column (on the blackout) for The Telegraph.
By the way, would you like to get your hands on a copy of the 1981 book Maria Callas: The Woman Behind the Legend, inscribed by a certain “Arianna Stassinopoulos to Hilton”? Then you won’t want to miss The New Criterion Book Sale. To receive information on this and other New Criterion events, sign up for our mailing list.
