The Daze of Wine and Roses
[Posted 1:49 PM by Stefan Beck]
Does Damien Hirst’s new work reveal a nostalgia for his bibulous past?
In a series of sculptures inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper, which will be seen in London this autumn, Hirst will depict Jesus and the apostles as 13 pingpong balls bobbing on spurting fountains of red wine.
Think of Telemachus: “Day after day theykill and devour our beasts and waste the wine that was laid up against my father’s return.” Let’s hope no Chateau Lafite-Rothschild was wasted in the production of this show.
Of course there’s no accounting for the British television tax, which has funded a three part documentary on Hirst and the YBA. The first episode will air tonight on BBC4.
