Regarding the post below, should it matter whether 170,000 or 170 priceless items were stolen in the liberation of Iraq? (And just to set the record straight, it looks more like 170 than 170,000. Here’s another essay on the subject, from Monday’s Guardian).
Archeologists who seek to preserve historical artifacts at all costs–even when used in the service of an oppressive regime–are trafficking in the same inhumanity as the despots who fund their museums.
